Galvanized wire rod is a type of metal fastener that has undergone surface galvanizing treatment. It is covered with a zinc layer to enhance corrosion resistance while maintaining high strength and wear resistance. It is widely used in mechanical, construction, and industrial fields.
1. Definition and Structure
Basic composition: Made of high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel, covered with a zinc layer (hot-dip galvanized or cold dip galvanized) on the surface, and the threaded part can be designed as a full tooth or half tooth structure.
Common specifications: diameter range M6 to M36, length up to 3 meters or customized to meet different load-bearing requirements.
2. Core Features
Corrosion resistance: The zinc layer effectively isolates oxygen and moisture, extending its service life, especially suitable for humid or outdoor environments.
High strength: 8.8 and 12.9 are common strength grades, with a tensile strength of over 1100N/mm ², suitable for high load scenarios.
Surface treatment process:
Hot dip galvanizing: The zinc layer is thick (usually>85 microns), with strong corrosion resistance, but the surface is slightly rough.
Cold galvanizing: The zinc layer is thin (about 3-5 microns), with a smooth surface but weak rust prevention ability, and is mostly used in low corrosion environments.
3. Manufacturing process
1. Material selection: High carbon steel or alloy steel (such as SCM435) is used to ensure the basic mechanical properties.
2. Forming and processing: After cutting, forging/rolling, the threads are processed by a thread lathe or milling machine.
3. Heat treatment: quenching+tempering to improve hardness and toughness, and enhance durability.
4. Galvanizing treatment:
Hot dip galvanizing: Immerse in molten zinc solution to form a uniform coating;
Cold galvanizing: electrolytic deposition of zinc layer, resulting in a finer surface.
Application scenarios
Construction engineering: used for connecting steel structures, fixing scaffolding, etc., with strong weather resistance.
Mechanical manufacturing: fastening of transmission systems, mold positioning, and high-temperature equipment (such as injection molding machines).
Transportation: Connecting components such as cars and bridges that require resistance to vibration and corrosion.
Galvanized wire rods combine zinc layer protection with high strength to solve the pain points of metal fasteners being prone to corrosion and insufficient bearing capacity, making them an ideal choice in fields such as machinery and construction. In practical applications, it is necessary to choose the galvanizing process and strength grade reasonably according to the environment and load requirements, and follow the specifications for installation and maintenance to ensure performance
